The Changwon Cultural Foundation is calling for amateur performers/artists to participate in the “Art Theater Collaboration” at the Changwon Sculpture Biennale 2020

 

The Changwon Cultural Foundation is accepting applications from amateur performers and artists (individual applicants and group applicants) to participate in
the “Art Theater Collaboration.”

Participants in the “Art Theater Collaboration” program are expected to perform for
the one of the on-stage installation arts selected for the “Main Exhibition 2
- To Non-Sculpture” category at the Changwon Sculpture Biennale 2020.

1. Title

: Changwon Sculpture Biennale 2020 “Art Theater Collaboration” - Call for applications (amateur performers/artists)

 

2. Summary

: Participants will perform as part of the on-stage installation art selected for the “Main Exhibition 2 - To Non-Sculpture” category at the Changwon Sculpture Biennale 2020 (theme: Non-Sculpture - Light of Flexible).

 

3. Details

1) Overview of the “Art Theater Collaboration” program

 

Performance period: September 17 (Thu), 2020 ~ October 24 (Sat), 2020

Performance genre: Performing arts (performance, pantomime, dance, singing, experimental play, etc.)

Performance venue: Indoor stage at Exhibition Hall no. 4 (2F), Seongsan Art Hall (tentative)

Availability: 12 teams (amateur performers/artists, individuals/groups)

2) Eligibility: Citizen of the Republic of Korea/foreigner residing in Korea; must be an amateur performing artist (individual or group - performing artists in training, hobby groups, social groups, families, etc. are eligible; Applicants may add music if the overall structure of the performance is based on a theater play; However, applicants may not solely resort to singing a song or performing a musical instrument)

3) No. of selected applications: 12 applications (individuals/groups)

4) Support

All 12 teams will be registered and promoted as participating artists

All 12 teams will be invited to perform once (20 minutes) at one of the 12 performing sessions
(Applicants may have the opportunity to perform two to three times depending on the number of applications; More details will be announced upon further deliberation)

Videos of all 12 teams performing on stage will be screened on the stage once all performances are complete

Each team will receive a KRW 300,000 grant for each performance session (20 minutes)


4. Deliberation criteria and deliberation

1) Qualitative assessment of a 5-minute edited video that can give the deliberation panel a good sense of what to expect in the full (20-minute) version of the performance (10%)

2) Assessment of the alignment between the performance and the purpose of the performance program (10%)

3) Assessment of the quality of production behind the performing arts piece prepared by the applicant (20%)

4) Assessment of the creativity and originality of performing arts piece prepared by the applicant (30%)

5) Assessment of the talent and acting ability of the performing artist in the art piece (30%)

6) Deliberation: All deliberations shall be based on documents and videos submitted for the program

 

5. Announcement of successful applicants

1) The deliberation panel will finalize its selection and announce successful applicants on August 14 (Fri), 2020, on the Changwon Sculpture Biennale 2020 website (http://www.changwonbiennale.or.kr)

 

6. Required documents and application instructions

1) Application period: 09:00 on July 20 (Mon), 2020 ~ 18:00 on August 10 (Mon), 2020

- 5-minute video edited to give an overview of the full version (20 minutes) of the performance

- Video file must be in MP4 (H.264 codec) format (maximum file size: 500MB)

- Minimum file resolution must be 1920*1080 pixels

Performance portfolio (optional, free form)

3) Application instructions

Download and complete the application form and consent form from the “Notice” page at the Changwon Sculpture Biennale 2020 website, then submit all documents (including the video file) via e-mail to: c.s.biennale2020@gmail.com

When submitting your application please use the following subject line: “Art Theater Collaboration_Application Form_Applicant Name”

No in-person or mail-in applications will be accepted

8. Precautions

1) Please actively cooperate with various assessments and audience satisfaction surveys conducted by the Foundation and the Biennale Promotion Team when taking part in the program

2) Failure to comply with the above item may result in disadvantages levied on future projects supported by the Foundation

3) The Biennale shall not be liable for any unfavorable results due to errors and omissions in an applicant’s application, or an applicant’s failure to respond to communications from the Biennale organizers

4) If the Biennale organizers discover any false information in an applicant’s application and submitted documents, it may cancel the selection

5) Submitted documents and video files will not be returned (videos of unsuccessful applicants will be destroyed)

 

9. Universal Precautions

1) Ineligible applicants

An individual who has been penalized for unfair acts pursuant to Article 6-2 (Prohibiting Unfair Practices) of the “Artist Welfare Act”

An individual who has been sentenced to imprisonment or treatment and custody for crimes pursuant to Article 2 of the “Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes”

An individual/group that has been investigated or prosecuted in connection with his/her involvement in sexual crimes and whose sentencing has not been finalized, or an individual/group that has been recognized for being unable or uncertain of participating in a supported program

An individual who has been publicly accused of plagiarism by media outlets, etc. in relation to this program

An individual who is serving a sentence for charges against plagiarism, delinquent wages, etc. in connection with this program

An individual who has been reported (to the Foundation) for having a reason for disqualification for the fraudulent acceptance of funds from the Fraudulent Acceptance Deliberation Committee under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism

2) Processing of ineligible individuals and groups

If the Biennale organizers discover and confirm that an individual/group is ineligible/disqualified during the application deliberation process, the deliberation panel will give said applicant the lowest possible grade for all areas of assessment.

If the Biennale organizers discover and confirm that an individual/group is ineligible/restricted after its initial deliberation and resolution, it will cancel said applicant’s selection and recoup all funds paid to the applicant.

3) Precautions when applying for supported projects

Please note that all applicants are responsible for any disadvantages stemming from grounds for exclusion from the deliberation process.

Applicants who fail to submit all of the required documents shall be ruled ineligible from the deliberation process.

If the applicant does not own the copyright to his/her work submitted to the program, he/she must submit a consent form from the original owner giving access to the intellectual property at the time of application.

When filling out the application form, the applicant must specify why the art piece was created, why he/she applied, and how the overall space will be directed in great detail as it is used as critical information when deliberating each application.

If an application contains false personal/group information, or if falsified documents are submitted for the program, the Biennale organizers may cancel part or all of its subsidies in compliance with relevant legislations and guidelines.
