Untitled(Red dots forming a square)

A set of red circles placed on a vast expanse of green grass in the park instantly grabs attention.
A total of 16 red circular multiplex plates create a giant square on the ground. Circles are often found in nature where many organic beings are round in their shape as you can see from fruits or pebbles. In contrast, artificial objects such as buildings with walls and a roof are often rectangular in their external form. Superficially, the nature and man-made objects seem at the opposite end of each other, without leaving much room for mutual harmony. The artist, however, ingeniously narrows the gap between these two. In fact, nature and artificial objects are not that far away from each other as seen here in Yongji Park which is an artificially constructed nature. Through this artwork, STAPELE also opens up an opportunity to bring together the artificial red color of the public bathroom on one side of the exhibit and the natural red hue of a rock on the other side. This piece is a non-sculpture in a sense that the plywood plates look flat without depth; but at the same time, it can be considered a sculpture as theses plates are installed in a park, which adds a spatial dimension.
