You are looking at a non-sculpture that has set out in pursuit of the environment. A giant ball of plastic bottles is placed on top of the truck. This is co-called “object art” and at the same time “recycled art,” which is made from discarded material that once had another purpose. PAULIN used plastics, the main culprit of environmental pollution, to form a globe representing the planet earth. The blue truck and the big ball made of plastic bottles of different colors and shapes are an aesthetically-pleasing yet unnerving combination. It is a wake-up call and a sobering reminder of how vulnerable the earth is. Inspired by the artist’s personal experience with a landfill in Africa, this work raises awareness about plastic waste and environmental protection.
