Traces
A total of 76 jackets are featured on the central staircase at Seongsan Art Hall. In this textile installation art or sculpture, jackets are not found in their usual place – hanger. Rather, they are hung closely together on a wooden structure installed on top of the staircase. This way, pieces of garments in everyday space are transformed into a work of art in the artistic arena. The garments not worn but on display evoke a strong sense of absence. Wrinkles and spots on these second-hand clothes leave traces of time. This thought-provoking non-sculpture installation is a monumental piece that engages us to reflect on the meaning of presence and absence.
