Floating Black Forest

This work is suspended above the courtyard of Seongsan Art Hall and its height reaches up to the 2nd floor. This is a large-size installation with feathered black polyester yarns as well as a sculpture made of flexible materials. The polyester yarn is only 2mm-thick and you can imagine what a daunting task it must have been for the artists to install this work. Tying together these thin materials one by one to hang them up in the air is a necessary labor, but highly exhausting. Visitors walking below these light pieces create a wind that gently push those delicate materials from side to side. Can you see how the pieces sparkle? The shiny feathers attached to the black polyester yarns are reflecting the light. The size and the shape of the work looks different depending on where you are standing. The serene photographs of Tae-Kyu JEONG on the windows of the 3rd floor mingle with this installation, creating a variation of images. In this sense, this work masterfully accomplishes the Biennale’s theme, “Non-Sculpture: Light or Flexible.”
