From tablecloths to suit jackets, checkered patterns with crossed horizontal and vertical lines are a common sight in our everyday lives. STOCKER’s work is a creased sculpture with these geometric patterns. Folded and creased patterns mark a departure from Modernism and Structuralism. They reject a view that everything can be interpreted by reason, taking a new look at an object. In fact, we come across skewed patterns more often than organized ones. Take creased tablecloth or wrinkled clothes for example. Here’s another interesting fact. This work was an inspiration for the distorted crisscross patterns on the official poster of this year’s Biennale, appearing in the background of the text “Non-Sculpture: Light or Flexible.”
