Land and soil remember human history with their very own body. We human beings also come from dust and go back to dust in the end. KIM’s previous works have involved clay buildings erected on a tank filled with water that washes the building away little by little. Her works have symbolically demonstrated how human history has repeated rises and falls numerous times for the sake of what we call civilization. This time, based on her visit to Changwon, KIM constructed a clay building that represents her version of Hanil town, which is the first dormitory of HANIL SYNTHETIC FIBER, from the Korean modern history. The eroding water is not present this time, but the work allows us to reflect on human history that is both the same and different at the same time by using clay as a material and creating the building and landscape made of clay.
