This work engages in communication with visitors. Even though this installation carries out an interaction with the visitors, the result is quite perplexing. There are boxes with a button, so you press it; then, a machine hand comes out of the box and switches itself off. Isn’t the machine supposed to play music, give a gift or something? The work only follows what was pre-programmed, but the visitors are reminded of the communication failures in this unexpected situation. We experience communication failures and frustration every day even when we speak the same language, so there is no way the communication with an art installation in a non-language would be successful. With her problem-posing work, KIM makes us contemplate the relationship between our conscious and subconscious.
