Over a dozen chairs closely tied to each other are suspended in mid-air in an infinite loop. No typical sculpting techniques such as trimming or carving were applied. Nonetheless, this piece was born out of a long and arduous process of creation. Gravity-defying balancing and other special engineering and installation techniques are employed in this artwork. This type of sculpture is called “found object art” (objet trouvé) because it is created from everyday objects that are not normally considered materials from which art is made. Sometimes, it is called an assemblage or art made by assembling three-dimensional elements. It is exhilarating to see how plain old objects can be transformed into a work of art.
