Vertical Story telling
STRÖMBERG prepared 13 white crystal gemstones for this Biennale. Each gemstone sits on a newspaper bundle placed on each of the 13 metal stands. Most spectators probably won’t notice that these are crystal gemstones. The work is titled “Vertical Story Telling” because different materials are lined up vertically, from the artificial metal stand concealed in black; to the newspapers on the stand, which are artificial found objects; to the natural stone. Storytelling describes the activity of telling stories, but when we consider that these stories can be fictitious, we can see where the aesthetics of camouflage in the artist’s Vertical Story Telling comes from. The artist is challenging spectators to a scavenger hunt to find the message hidden in this poetic sculpture.
