From The Beginning - 20201017
What you see in front of you is a gigantic installation made of a myriad of magazines. Magazines combine text and images to convey a message or information. They have dominated the scene of human communication since the development of printing. They have fostered a system that values knowledge over wisdom, and information over the truth, fueling the negative aspects of media. Why is this work titled “From the Beginning?” According to the biblical myth of origins, in the beginning, there were the Logos and light. Reason confronts emotion, text challenges images, and the light drives away the darkness. CHOI intends to find the truth behind the unseen that is concealed by today’s capitalist media world. The holes between magazines appear like shortcuts to the Logos and light, or the hidden world of truth. The artist says they are about a story of dimensions. Were you able to find them, by any chance?
