This sculpture is a network of interconnected knots made of soft-textured red strings. It’s a rhizome-style non-sculpture. Rhizomes are multiple faux roots that are intertwined with each other, rather than a single root found in grass. The work represents rhizomes’ democratic status, if not their ideals, marking a departure from a typical tree-like model with a hierarchy starting with the grandfather at the top and the father, the son, and the grandson underneath it. The interconnected knots simply maintain ties of friendship.
