Mountain Ocean

The artist pays attention to space, human beings, and culture. His works are not only made of the materials he can locally procure to faithfully represent the unique characteristics of the space but also rooted in the Eastern context. When he did a residency program in Korea, he found the housing and living spaces are different even within Asia, and this finding led to a deep-dive into Korea’s roofing tiles. He reconstructs Mountain Ocean by putting together the roofing tiles with unique local characteristics that he obtains in the region. He creates ocean made of the roofing tiles of Changwon and invites us to discover our similarities and differences by re-creating the sea view from the perspective of the visitor.
